Your Brainerd Lakes Area Fishing Reports

Our Latest Fishing Reports

Fishing has been Good in the BLA. Walleyes have been biting on leeches, Chubs and Night Crawlers – 16-24 Ft. The Bass action is excellent along the weed lines on most area lakes in 8-14 FT on plastics and spinner baits. Northern Pike activity has been good as well, Jig with a minnow has been working the best. As water temps rise the fishing will get better and better. Now is the time to book a Guided Fishing Trip. The 2024 walleye opener is fast approaching. Lake conditions are a little a head of normal but pretty average overall. Water temps are in the mid to upper 50’s. Walleyes are post spawn and ready to eat mainly on shallow windblown flats. We are expecting the bite to be pretty good for opening weekend in the 4-15’ range. Pitching stand up jigs and shiners will be the starting point. Next will be pitching jigs with plastics and long casting stickbaits in skinny water. I’ll include pictures of some of my favorite early season baits. Also crappies are starting to move back into the shallows in some soft bottom bays. Water temps are upper 50’s to low 60’s in the bays. Find the warm water and you’ll find shallow fish. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Nate and Butch took a trip ip yo Lake Winnipeg for a few days if March ice fishing. Conditions were great as was the walleye fishing. They caught 3 walleyes over 10 lbs and more 22-27 inch fish than you can count. Current Brainerd area lakes conditions are either ice out or very near. Boats will be in the water soon chasing crappies. Give us a call at 218-829-7010 to book your 2024 open water guide trip.

Multi-species fishing remains very strong throughout the Brainerd area.  Walleyes are moving outside of the weedlines. 18-24 ft have been best. Rigging minnows or leeches have been good. You can still get some walleyes bobber fishing in the weeds but you have to be more precise with location. Bass and pike fishing has been great. Find sone cabbage and you’ll find bass. We’ve been pitching jigs and plastic worms for bass and pike. Quite a few big pike have been biting as well but they are in cooler deeper water on the 22-28 foot range. Panfish are biting strong as well in good green weeds in 10-14 feet. Stay cool and have fun.
