HOT!! That is the word this week in the B.L.A – Along with the heat comes the dog days of summer especially for Walleye fishing. We are now peaking with our water temps in our lakes, temps hovering between 75-80 degrees. However, fishing continues to be excellent for bass and pike. One of our boats landed over 100 in a six-hour trip. The Bass fishing has been pretty hot on most of our area lakes, north long and Hubert, and Gull Lake have been the best in the 12-20 feet weed lines. Plastics, crankbaits, spinner baits, pretty much anything you like to try is working! Northern Pike are turning on Jigs and Pike minnows in 18-28 feet on Gull and Whitefish. Walleyes can be caught but with the extremely warm water temps they have been tougher lately, but we are boxing a few nice eaters but its been mainly a morning bite – Night crawlers seem to be the best on a lindy rig or 1/4 oz jig tipped with half a Night Crawler, along with casting a slip bobber tipped with a leech in 20-32 feet of water on Pelican and White Fish. Sunfish are active on most area lakes in the deeper cabbage beds on Night Crawlers and a small jig or small leeches. Get out and enjoy the summer on the water!! Mid summer patterns have emersed in the B.L.A – meaning overall fishing is good! our water temps are now in the mid- 70s and all species seem to be relating to deeper structure on most lakes. Walleyes can be found on 14-26 feet on Whitefish, Pelican and Gull- A lindy rig and a redtail chub or night crawlers is turning fish now more than a slip boober leech combo. Bass and Pike fishing continues to be outstanding in the deeper cabbage 14-22 feet- Ned rig, Jig and minnow and plastic worms seem to be best with Upper Gull, North Long and Edwards. Panfish are more scattered, but nice sunfish can be found in the deeper weed in 12- 16 feet with a wax worm, crappie minnows and angle worm or even a small leech. Good Luck!!
