Your Brainerd Lakes Area Fishing Reports

Our Latest Fishing Reports

Fishing is starting to change as the weather changes still. Not a strong consistent bite but we are getting a few. Walleyes have been in about 12-24 feet of water, Gull, North long and Pelican lake have been good fishing prepare to use a Jig, Lindy Rig and a bobber with a Leech, Night crawler, Small minnow like a Fathead or a Larger Minnow like a Shiner or a Chub. Bass fishing has been decent on Gull and North Long roughly 8-15 feet jigging with a plastic worm or a Night Crawler also casting a spinner bait. Northern Pike are active shallow and deep but mainly 12-18 feet, still running with Bass and Walleye in a nice casual after noon bite using a Bobber with a Sucker Minnow. Pan Fishing (Crappies and Sunnie’s) have been in 6-14 Feet in deep cabbage beds using a small jig or Flu Flu of some sorts with Crappie Minnows, Small Leeches and Wax Worms. The 2024 walleye opener is fast approaching. Lake conditions are a little a head of normal but pretty average overall. Water temps are in the mid to upper 50’s. Walleyes are post spawn and ready to eat mainly on shallow windblown flats. We are expecting the bite to be pretty good for opening weekend in the 4-15’ range. Pitching stand up jigs and shiners will be the starting point. Next will be pitching jigs with plastics and long casting stickbaits in skinny water. I’ll include pictures of some of my favorite early season baits. Also crappies are starting to move back into the shallows in some soft bottom bays. Water temps are upper 50’s to low 60’s in the bays. Find the warm water and you’ll find shallow fish. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Nate and Butch took a trip ip yo Lake Winnipeg for a few days if March ice fishing. Conditions were great as was the walleye fishing. They caught 3 walleyes over 10 lbs and more 22-27 inch fish than you can count. Current Brainerd area lakes conditions are either ice out or very near. Boats will be in the water soon chasing crappies. Give us a call at 218-829-7010 to book your 2024 open water guide trip.
