Mid summer is upon us in the B.L.A. Despite all of the weird weather, storms, heat waves, and big rain… fishing remains very good in the BLA lately! The bobber/ leech bite in the cabbage has been very good for all species including sunfish!
Walleyes have been a little tougher lately, although in the right conditions you can still get a bunch. They have been biting on minnows, crawlers, leeches and plastics- Lindy rig, slip bobber and jigging… still nothing wildly consistent when it comes to how you are fishing- 10-25 feet has been the best – Whitefish – Gull – Pelican.
The Bass and Pike action has been excellent. Both plastics and jig/ minnow combination have been working in 8-15 feet- along the weed lines on Upper Gull, North Long, and Lake Edward.
Panfish are active on the deeper cabbage now, a small jig tipped with a wax worm or crappie minnow are working in 6-14 feet on Gull- Cullen – and Sylvan have been best.
Remember selective harvest and only keep what you need.
