Nisswa Guides History
Koep's Pro Shop got its start in 1961 when Marv and Judy Koep bought the old Links Bait Shop and renamed it Koep's Bait. Marv and Judy had both just grauated from high school and Marv, after a brief job at an upholstery shop in the Twin Cities, decided he had enough of the big city life and had to get back to rural Minnesota. The original shop mostly sold wholesale bait to area resorts with a small amount of retailing of bait to area anglers. The shop also bought and sold fur from area fur traders. Marv added tackle to the business during his first year in operation and also guided in the summers to help make ends meet during his first two years in operation.
It was in the late 1960s that a fisherman named Ron Lindner stopped by to ask for a job for him and his brother Al. Marv was short of guides at the time and decided to take a chance and hire the two. A short time later another fisherman by the name of Gary Roach dropped in and asked for a job. Soon, other guides from Koep's would establish themselves as some of the best fisherman in the Lakes area and called themselves the Nisswa Guides League.
